Big Seven recap October 1, 2013
Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] moved up to 112 from 155 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Big Seven. The Cyclones were able to move up by defeating Troy 34-6.
Jefferson West was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Santa Fe Trail. The Tigers came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
Perry-Lecompton's dynamic duo of Seth Surface and Brandon Eddy proved tough for Nemaha Valley to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Surface threw for 175 yards and Eddy had 110 yards receiving. Caleb Daniels helped Perry-Lecompton's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 24 yards.
Kyle Chew provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Atchison County topped Valley Falls. He completed 10 passes for 144 yards and also ran for 82 yards. Chew's favorite target this week was Jesse Noll, who caught 8 passes for 94 yards.
The Chargers' Weston Gloss and Tyler Mundy led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Gloss has thrown for 583 yards this season, while Mundy, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 21 catches for 433 yards. Holton's Brenden Hampton leads the league in rushing yards with 573.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] takes on the Tigers. As it stands, Scot Koranda's team is in first, while Atchison County is in seventh.
Adding to the longest winning streak in Big Seven this week, the Cyclones beat the Trojans 34-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for Riverside [Wathena/Elwood].
