Softball Recap: James Buchanan Wins Going Away Against Clear Spring

James Buchanan won the last time they faced Clear Spring and things went their way on Monday too. The Rockets blew past the Blazers 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Lilianna Wiley made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, James Buchanan got a massive performance out of Karli Gordon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Mekenzie Gayman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

James Buchanan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

James Buchanan's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Clear Spring, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. James Buchanan will head out to take on Shippensburg at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Clear Spring, they will venture away from home to face off against Smithsburg at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blazers are facing the Leopards at the right time seeing as the Leopards are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
