Wickliffe hasn't had much luck against Brush recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Arcs at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wickliffe has three straight wins, Brush has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Wickliffe had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Hawken on Saturday. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won ten contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Nunzio Zivnoska made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Wickliffe let Logan Ruscin and Liam Widemire run wild. Ruscin got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Widemire got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Kaden Urban was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Wickliffe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Brush fell victim to South and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rebels. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Arcs were not able to get on the board.
Wickliffe's win bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Brush, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
Brush's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wickliffe has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .503. It's a different story for Brush, though, as they've only averaged .361. Will they be able to contain Wickliffe's hitters?
Wickliffe might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Brush when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Blue Devils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
