Basketball Recap: Marcos De Niza Falls Despite Big Games from Drew Dana and James Steward

Marcos de Niza lost against St. Mary on January 7th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Marcos de Niza Padres lost 79-54 to the St. Mary's Knights. While losing is never fun, the Padres can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while the Knights are ranked 39th).

Marcos de Niza's loss came despite strong showings from James Steward and Drew Dana. Steward dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Dana went 8 of 19 on his way to 18 points. Steward's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Mcgee, who posted six points.

Marcos de Niza's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for St. Mary's, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marcos de Niza will host Cactus Shadows at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Marcos de Niza is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.2 points per game this season. As for St. Mary's, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Mesquite at 7:00 p.m. Mesquite also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 60.9 points per game.
