The James Buchanan Rockets are taking a road trip to take on the Cumberland Valley Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. James Buchanan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
James Buchanan lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Boiling Springs, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. The Rockets blew past the Bubblers 9-1 on Thursday. The game was the first time the Rockets have beaten the Bubblers on their field since March 29, 2022.
Drew Crouse made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jake Miller, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Jimmy Bell also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
James Buchanan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Boiling Springs only posted a batting average of .222.
Meanwhile, Cumberland Valley suffered their closest defeat since May 2, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Central Dauphin by a score of 3-1. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost four in a row.
Cumberland Valley also got a good showing from Curtis Shinn, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Shinn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
The victory made it two in a row for James Buchanan and bumps their season record up to 13-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Cumberland Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6.
Both James Buchanan and Cumberland Valley just can't seem to miss. The Rockets have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Cumberland Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
