The Chopticon Braves entered their tilt with the Leonardtown Raiders with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Chopticon took down Leonardtown 59-45 on Friday. This was payback for Chopticon, who suffered a 68-56 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Leading Chopticon to victory were Braylon Harrison and Jordan Pernell. Harrison scored 16 points along with nine rebounds, while Pernell scored 21 points along with six rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pernell has scored all season. Iverson Hill was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Leonardtown lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Landon Windell, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was Aaron Green, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Leonardtown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Chopticon's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for Leonardtown, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chopticon will challenge McDonough at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. McDonough knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Chopticon likes a good challenge. As for Leonardtown, they will head out on the road to challenge La Plata at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. La Plata will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while Leonardtown is ranked 100th).
