The Woodruff Wolverines struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Laurens Raiders had 28 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Woodruff took a 44-28 bruising from Laurens. Woodruff has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Woodruff's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sadie Burnette, who scored 11 points. Burnette scored a full 39.3% of Woodruff's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Alexis Baldwin was another key contributor, scoring three points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Laurens was led to victory by Faith Jackson and Zoe Young. Jackson dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, while Young dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Young has scored at least 25% of Laurens' points. Another player making a difference was Nyri Allen, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Woodruff has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Laurens, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Woodruff will head out on the road to face off against Mid-Carolina at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Laurens won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Northside Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on December 16th. Northside Christian Academy is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
