Clinton Prairie has gone 7-0-1 against Tri-Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Gophers will host the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. Clinton Prairie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Rossville hit Clinton Prairie with a six-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Gophers lost 11-1 to the Hornets. The matchup marked the Gophers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Clinton Prairie saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zelda Wampler, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Tri-Central hadn't done well against Eastern recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Trojans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Comets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted against the Comets since May 2, 2017.
Layla Baldwin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Baldwin was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Logan Creason was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
Clinton Prairie's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 14-6. As for Tri-Central, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-9.
Tri-Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Clinton Prairie has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Tri-Central, though, as they've been averaging 11.9 hits. Given Clinton Prairie's sizable advantage in that area, the Trojans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Clinton Prairie skirted past Tri-Central 5-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Gophers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
