Baseball Game Preview: Hersey Huskies vs. Schaumburg Saxons

Hersey has gone a perfect 8-0 against Schaumburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Huskies will host the Saxons at 4:45 p.m. The timing is sure in Hersey's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Schaumburg has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.

Hersey's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Buffalo Grove with a sharp 11-0 win. Considering the Huskies have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Keegan Luxem made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brady Klehr, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mike Sokan, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Hersey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Palatine hit Schaumburg with a six-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Saxons lost 11-1 to the Pirates.

Schaumburg's defeat dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Hersey, their victory bumped their record up to 19-5-1.

Hersey came out on top in a nail-biter against Schaumburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Saxons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
