Basketball Recap: Dietrich Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Dietrich came tearing into Saturday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Murtaugh Red Devils by a score of 75-66. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Red Devils are ranked 68th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dietrich's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brody Torgerson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards. Chase Norman was another key player, going 8 of 15 on his way to 20 points along with eight boards and five steals.

Dietrich smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Dietrich pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Murtaugh, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dietrich will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Glenns Ferry at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Dietrich knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Glenns Ferry likes a good challenge. Murtaugh also won't see the court for a while: their next matchup is against Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
