Liberty's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Hunter, who shot 50% from the field en route to 20 points and seven boards. Hunter continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of TJ Harris, who posted 12 points.
Liberty was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They are 17-6 when they've passed the ball that well.
Meanwhile, Mesa had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past the Pioneers with points to spare, taking the game 51-37. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mesa found their leader in freshman Jakyi Miles, who shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Miles' sixth in a row with at least 20 points. Daijon Grayson was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with ten points and nine boards.
Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 18-10. As for Mesa, their win bumped their record up to 21-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Liberty has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mesa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Liberty and Mesa were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, but Liberty came up empty-handed after a 58-57 loss. Will Liberty have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
