Basketball Recap: Greene Central Comes Up Short

Greene Central lost against SouthWest Edgecombe back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Greene Central Rams took a blow against the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars, falling 63-34. The Rams were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-14.

SouthWest Edgecombe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaliyah Whitehead, who went 9 of 20 on her way to 21 points along with six assists and six steals. Whitehead has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kdeidria Collins, who went 8 of 18 en route to 20 points along with eight steals and six boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Greene Central and nudges their season record down to 4-2. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greene Central will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ayden - Grifton at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against North Edgecombe at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. SouthWest Edgecombe knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully North Edgecombe likes a good challenge.
