The Worthington Kilbourne Wolves will head out to challenge the Licking Heights Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Worthington Kilbourne is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
Worthington Kilbourne fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Upper Arlington on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Golden Bears by a score of 8-7.
Juliana Orlins was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Orlins wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Becca Boue, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Another was Josie Janosy, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Licking Heights earned a 6-1 win over Westerville North on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hornets.
Natalie Mahoney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alissa West, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Lydia Rauch also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Licking Heights hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Licking Heights' record now sits at 14-11. As for Worthington Kilbourne, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Worthington Kilbourne hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .366. However, it's not like Licking Heights struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Worthington Kilbourne couldn't quite finish off Licking Heights in their previous matchup back in April of 2018 and fell 5-3. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
