Manheim Township is 9-1 against Cedar Crest since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Blue Streaks will look to defend their home field against the Falcons at 4:15 p.m. Manheim Township is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
While Manheim Township's win against Penn Manor wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blue Streaks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Comets on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Streaks have posted since May 11, 2024.
Tyler Shirk looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Manheim Township saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lincoln Stoltzfus, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another was Angelo Billiard, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Cedar Crest had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand J.P. McCaskey a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The matchup marked the Falcons' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Aaron Krumbine tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Cedar Crest is 3-1 when Krumbine allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Custer, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Landon Kreider was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Cedar Crest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
The win made it two in a row for Manheim Township and bumps their season record up to 7-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Cedar Crest, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-5.
Everything went Manheim Township's way against Cedar Crest when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Manheim Township made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Blue Streaks repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
