Clifton is 1-6 against Maypearl since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Clifton Cubs will look to defend their home court against the Maypearl Panthers at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Clifton is ranked 549th, while Maypearl is ranked 544th).
After soaring to 61 points the game before, Clifton were a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They received a tough blow as they fell 32-17 to West. Clifton has struggled against West recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their defeat, Clifton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Meagan Henderson, who scored four points along with two steals and two blocks, was perhaps the best of all.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Clifton struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Maypearl didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Grandview on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 54-49 win.
Clifton's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Maypearl, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-13 record this season.
Clifton came out on top in a nail-biter against Maypearl in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, sneaking past 41-39. Does Clifton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Maypearl turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
