The Oneida Express put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 49-35 win over Holland Patent. Given Oneida's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Golden Knights are ranked 331st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Holland Patent still got an impressive performance from Terralyn McLaughlin, who scored 19 points along with seven steals. McLaughlin is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kirsten Lighthall was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Holland Patent struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Oneida's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.6 points per game. As for Holland Patent, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Oneida will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on the Jugglers at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Holland Patent will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on the Wildcats at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.
