The Laughlin Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the GV Christian Guardians at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Laughlin is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Laughlin lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on last Friday was a bit more commanding. They were dealt a 61-19 loss at the hands of Needles. While losing is never fun, Laughlin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 84th in Nevada, while Needles is ranked 16th in California).
Laughlin's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Amora Thomas, who scored six points along with four steals, and Daishanae Jackson who scored nine points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, GV Christian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. Their rough 59-34 defeat to Southeast Career Tech might stick with them for a while. GV Christian has struggled against Southeast Career Tech recently, as their match on Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Laughlin's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for GV Christian, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.
Laughlin was able to grind out a solid win over GV Christian in their previous meeting back in January, winning 53-43. The rematch might be a little tougher for Laughlin since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
