Bryant scored a shocking upset when it eliminated Murphy, 59-42. At the time, the Panthers were ranked 25th in the state, while the Hurricanes were 66th.
Fans got a thrill when Harry Satterwhite and Terrell Kennedy connected against Baker. The connection went for 80 yards, the longest such play in 6A Region 1 this season.
Joshua Gano was a key player and the best on defense this week as Theodore fell to Blount. The 6-foot-0 senior nabbed 1 interception, forced 2 fumbles, recorded 4 fumbles and racked up 2 sacks.
DePriest Turner threw for 140 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 12-19 with 2 interceptions.
Turner was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 187 yards on 14 carries as Murphy bested the Hornets. Michael Hudson also contributed to the rushing game with 23 yards on the ground.
6-foot-1 quarterback Satterwhite of the Yellowjackets is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,590. He has also thrown 18 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Kameron Maye. The Murphy star has 44 catches for 742 yards.
Ronn Lee's team's Turner needs only 89 yards against McGill-Toolen next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Turner has rushed for 911 yards on 112 carries so far this year.
