Churchill County had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Lincoln Fighting Zebras with a sharp 13-2 victory. The win was nothing new for the Greenwave as they're now sitting on 11 straight dating back to last season.
Janessa Bettencourt made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Churchill County got a big performance out of Layla Walker, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Taraylynn Vershum, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
