Basketball Recap: San Jacinto Valley Academy Comes Up Short

San Jacinto Valley Academy lost against Desert Christian Academy back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The San Jacinto Valley Academy Wolves were beaten by the Desert Christian Academy Conquerors 81-42. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 995th, while the Conquerors are ranked 288th).

San Jacinto Valley Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brayden Hutchinson, who posted 11 points. The dominant performance gave Hutchinson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Day Edwards, who put up 12 points.

It was another big night for Augustine Youssef, who shot 6-for-9 from deep and dropped a double-double on 45 points and 11 rebounds for Desert Christian Academy. That makes it five consecutive games in which Youssef has scored at least a third of Desert Christian Academy's points. Josiah Garrison was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

San Jacinto Valley Academy dropped their record down to 5-6 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Desert Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Jacinto Valley Academy will welcome Nuview Bridge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Jacinto Valley Academy is facing Nuview Bridge at the right time seeing as Nuview Bridge is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Desert Christian Academy, they will be playing at home against Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Desert Christian Academy will also cruise into their next matchup with the timing on their side: Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School will have lost six straight heading into Wednesday's contest.
