It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Red Springs Red Devils can now relate to. They were beaten by SouthWest Edgecombe 43-13 on Friday. While losing is never fun, Red Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 305th, while SouthWest Edgecombe is ranked 95th).
Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jakelsin Mack, who rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown.
SouthWest Edgecombe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kea Hopkins led the charge by rushing for 39 yards and two touchdowns. Sa'mauri White also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Red Springs' defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely SouthWest Edgecombe, Clinton, and St. Pauls. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
Red Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. SouthWest Edgecombe will look to defend their home field on Friday against Farmville Central at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Farmville Central's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
