Basketball Recap: Woodland Park Comes Up Short

Woodland Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 20th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Manitou Springs Mustangs 49-13. The Panthers lost against the Mustangs in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 38-37 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Woodland Park saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kai Kattil posted seven points. Kattil has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Manitou Springs found their leader in freshman Nolan Barrett, who went 6-for-10 en route to 15 points and eight steals. Barrett has become a key player for Manitou Springs: the team is undefeated when she posts at least five steals, but 6-7 otherwise. Kate Jorstad was another key player, putting up three points along with six boards and six steals.

Woodland Park's loss dropped their record down to 0-17. As for Manitou Springs, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Woodland Park wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 72-10 defeat against Colorado Springs Christian on the 13th. As for Manitou Springs, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-29 loss against Salida on the 13th.
