Mountain Pass recap Oct. 9, 2012
Citrus Hill extended the longest winning streak in Mountain Pass this week by beating San Jacinto, 30-14. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Hawks.
Beaumont was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Cougars defeated West Valley 45-26.
Tahquitz's dynamic duo of Ben Moreno and Michael Stewart proved tough for Hemet to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Moreno threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns and Stewart had 156 yards receiving. Mytorious Boyd helped Tahquitz's passing attack out by catching two balls for 59 yards.
Joe Jeffers was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 230 yards as Beaumont bested the Bulldogs. Greg Rincon also contributed to the rushing game with 45 yards on the ground.
Tahquitz's Moreno and Stewart have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Mountain Pass in both passing and receiving yards. Moreno has thrown for 1205 yards this season, while Stewart has 44 catches for 596 yards. Jeffers from Paul Lopez's team leads the league in rushing with 1267 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Cougars take on Citrus Hill. Beaumont is currently in third, while Eric Zomalt's team is in first.
Dennis Gregovich's team took down Hemet 51-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Moreno ran for five yards in the win.
