Two dominant signal callers in Thomas Buckmiller and Tucker Ingersoll are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Coronado Cougars will square off against the Pomona Panthers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Coronado had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 36-point drubbing they dealt Pueblo Central on Thursday. The Cougars claimed a resounding 70-34 victory over the Wildcats. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Cougars just coasted through the last quarter.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coronado to victory, but perhaps none more so than Collin Wolf, who picked up 131 receiving yards and three touchdowns. That's the most receiving yards Wolf has posted since back in September. Another pass catcher making a difference was Lyrik Smith, who picked up 90 receiving yards and three scores.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Coronado, adding 15 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Wolf, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Pomona had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.8 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 28-7 win. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Panthers were the (much) better team in the second half.
Pomona's win came from a few key players Coronado will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Luis Santana, who rushed for 134 yards and one TD while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmitt Munson, who gained 58 total yards and two touchdowns.
Pomona's run defense was locked in: Thompson Valley could only muster two yards per carry. The team can thank Munson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Pomona didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.3.
Coronado's record is now 7-3. As for Pomona, their record now sits at 9-1.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. Coronado has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 335.6 passing yards per game. Pomona, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 184.6 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Saturday? There's only one way to find out.
