The Palmer Dragons''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by Calhoun City 44-8. While losing is never fun, Palmer can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Calhoun City is ranked 57th).
It was another big night for Jamajah Mayes, who rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Mayes hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games. Calhoun City also got help from Shane Farmer who showed off his sure hands for 81 receiving yards.
Palmer's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-3 North Side and 8-3 Leflore County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.2% over those games). As for Calhoun City, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Palmer does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Calhoun City will be playing in front of their home fans against Eupora at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd.
