The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles will square off against the Chaparral Wolverines at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountain Vista is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games.
Mountain Vista is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Castle View, who was ranked fifth at the time (Mountain Vista was ranked second). The Golden Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Sabercats an 11-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

03/17/25 @ Basic | 5 |
03/28/25 vs Chatfield | 5 |
04/07/25 @ Fossil Ridge | 6 |
03/11/25 vs Fairview | 7 |
The result came thanks to Chase Ruden's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.
On the hitting side, Anthony Mitchell and Alex King did most of the damage at the plate: Mitchell went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while King went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits King has posted since back in May of 2024. Cole Bobbin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
Mountain Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Castle View only posted an OBP of .185.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chaparral). They put the hurt on Highlands Ranch with a sharp 18-8 victory on Monday. With that win, the Wolverines brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Cal Tiner, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Josh McWilliams, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Chaparral's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Mountain Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mountain Vista has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
