Central Magnet came out on top against Oneida on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. Central Magnet put the hurt on Oneida with a sharp 9-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Central Magnet, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Braylon Dowell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Central Magnet's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 4-2 (and 9-10 when he doesn't). Dowell was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last 13 games.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joseph Rowell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was John Roth, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Central Magnet hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.

Central Magnet is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Oneida, they dropped their record down to 8-14 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Central Magnet wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 19-6 victory against Oliver Springs on the 19th. As for Oneida, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-0 loss against Fulton on the 18th.
