1A Tar-Roanoke recap Oct. 16, 2012
Northampton County extended the longest winning streak in 1A Tar-Roanoke this week by beating KIPP Pride, 54-0. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
North Edgecombe and Weldon played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with North Edgecombe eventually emerging with a 14-8 victory.
Northampton County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Keion Crossen threw for 38 and one touchdown and Mon'trae High had 38 yards receiving. On the ground Brian Lassiter chipped in 113 yards.
The Jaguars' Crossen and Lassiter have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Crossen has thrown for 425 yards this season, while Lassiter, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has four catches for 212 yards. Jaquez McDaniel from Southeast Halifax leads the league in rushing with 833 yards.
A big matchup in 1A Tar-Roanoke this week will be when Gates County takes on the Warriors. The Red Barons are in third place, while North Edgecombe is in fourth place.
Northampton County took down the Panther 54-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lassiter in the win.
