Duncan is 0-10 against St. David since March of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Wildkats will host the Tigers at 3:45 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Duncan took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Lordsburg, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildkats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mavericks on Tuesday, sneaking past 13-12.
Isaac Harris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Harris wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Guy Riedhead, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, Riedhead posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another was Ethan Hernandez, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.
Duncan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lordsburg only posted a batting average of .192.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for St. David, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They put the hurt on Patagonia with a sharp 13-2 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won four contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Emmitt Etter and Brody Stover did most of the damage at the plate: Etter scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Stover scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those hits marked the first that Stover got this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Merrill, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Duncan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for St. David, their win bumped their record up to 5-6-1.
St. David's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Duncan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. It's a different story for St. David, though, as they've only averaged .353. Will they be able to contain Duncan's hitters?
Duncan might still be hurting after the 13-4 defeat they got from St. David in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Wildkats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
