Hueneme suffered their biggest loss since December 2, 2023 on Friday. They took a serious blow against Channel Islands, falling 66-34. Hueneme has struggled against Channel Islands recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Hueneme's defeat came about despite a quality game from Benito Gutierrez, who scored 11 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Gutierrez grabbed two or more steals.
Meanwhile, Castaic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by West Ranch on the road and fell 84-41. While losing is never fun, Castaic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 408th, while West Ranch is ranked 46th).
Hueneme has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Castaic, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.
