Midway has gone 8-2 against West Bladen recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Raiders are taking a road trip to face off against the Knights at 6:30 p.m. Midway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Midway beat Fairmont 9-5. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Golden Tornadoes: they've now won five in a row.
Wyatt Herring made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Wyatt Scott was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Wilson Mayo was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, West Bladen hadn't done well against Clinton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Knights put the hurt on the Dark Horses with a sharp 7-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Brady Durden's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, West Bladen let Tyler Lewis and JT Hepler run wild. Lewis went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI, while Hepler went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Hunter Hester also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
West Bladen's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Midway, their record is now 8-5.
Midway came up short against West Bladen in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
