The Los Lunas Tigers will square off against the Eldorado Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Los Lunas took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Albuquerque as they made off with a 15-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Los Lunas got a massive performance out of JJ Utash, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Matthew Castillo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Los Lunas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Eldorado faced Sandia in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Golden Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Matadors 10-8. The victory was familiar territory for the Golden Eagles, who have now won four games in a row.
Timothy Kamphuis was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three doubles. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cirillio Martinez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.
Los Lunas' win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Eldorado, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Los Lunas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Eldorado struggles in that department as they've averaged .372. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
