2A Western recap October 29, 2013
Gunnison extended the longest winning streak in 2A Western this week by beating Olathe, 25-22. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Bayfield and Pagosa Springs played the closest game in the league this week, with Bayfield eventually emerging with a 15-13 victory.
Cody Hoffman was a key player and the best on defense this week as Basalt lost to Aspen. He recorded 1 fumble.
Ryan Fitzgerald provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Skiers defeated the Longhorns. Fitzgerald's favorite target this week was Wyatt Young, who caught 3 passes for 34 yards.
Tyler Tick and Fitzgerald gave Aspen a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Tick threw for 51 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Fitzgerald ran for 179 yards. Tick also contributed to the rushing game with 23 yards on the ground.
Grand Valley's Tyler Scott and Ivan Arizaga led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Scott has thrown for 1,976 yards this season, while Arizaga has 44 catches for 662 yards. Fitzgerald from Mike Sirko's team leads the league in rushing with 1,612 yards.
The Cardinals took down Coal Ridge 56-24 last week, the largest margin of any game.
