Wheeler is 1-8 against Hammond Bishop Noll since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wheeler Bearcats will be staying on the road to face off against the Hammond Bishop Noll Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Wheeler will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 437th, while Hammond Bishop Noll is ranked 73rd).
Last Thursday, Wheeler came up short against Calumet New Tech and fell 61-52.
Despite the loss, Wheeler had strong showings from Marek Barton, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Brady Rife, who scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Blane, who scored four points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, Hammond Bishop Noll entered their tilt with Hammond Central with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Hammond Bishop Noll walked away with a 66-57 win over Hammond Central on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Hammond Bishop Noll relied on the efforts of Caleb Parks, who scored 17 points, and Amauri Moore, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds. Moore is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Khalel Johnson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Wheeler dropped their record down to 3-10 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Hammond Bishop Noll, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.
Wheeler took a serious blow against Hammond Bishop Noll when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 69-37. Can Wheeler avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
