Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Horn's 12th in Last 14 Outings

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Horn walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Harker Heights Knights on Friday as they made off with an 18-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won 14 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Irella Bautista made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Alyssa Becerra was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Jayde Ray, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

Horn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harker Heights only posted an OBP of .238.

Horn is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-11-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Harker Heights, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 21-13 record this season.

Horn is taking a road trip to take on Royse City at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Jaguars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Harker Heights will be paying especially close attention to Horn's match: after Horn faces off against Harker Heights, they'll take on Harker Heights again at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
