Steinbrenner has gone 9-1 against Wharton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Warriors will face off against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. The last seven games Steinbrenner has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
While Steinbrenner's victory against Plant wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 1-0 shutout on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.
The result came thanks to Lilly Patton's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Kindle, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Sophie Luaces, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Steinbrenner hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plant struck out ten times.
Meanwhile, Wharton came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Indians 17-7. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Eliza Connell made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Madelyn Parker was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Khloe Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Wharton's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Steinbrenner, their record is now 16-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Steinbrenner has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wharton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Steinbrenner's way against Wharton in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as Steinbrenner made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
