The Dayton Dust Devils scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They blew past Hug 57-34. The score was close at the half, but Dayton pulled away in the second half with 37 points.
Dayton was led to victory by Ayisha Agee and Kennidi Smith. Agee scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, while Smith dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Smith scored 15 or more points.
When it comes to explaining why Hug lost, one person who can't be blamed is Karen Salgado. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points. Precious Palaita was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Dayton and bumps their season record up to 6-3. As for Hug, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dayton will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fernley at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Hug will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on McQueen at 11:30 a.m. on December 27th.
