Baseball Recap: Southwestern Takes a Loss

Calhoun hit Southwestern with a six-run seventh inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Piasa Birds fell 9-4 to the Warriors. The loss continues a trend for the Piasa Birds in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost three in a row.

Southwestern saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Gray, who went 2-for-3 with two runs. Gray is becoming a predictor of the Piasa Birds' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 6-14 when he doesn't).

Southwestern's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Calhoun, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwestern will face off against Greenfield/Northwestern at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Calhoun, they will square off against Seymour at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
