Basketball Recap: Southampton Academy Takes a Loss

Southampton Academy lost against Brunswick Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Southampton Academy Raiders took a hard 71-53 fall against the Brunswick Academy Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while the Vikings are ranked 156th).

When it comes to explaining why Southampton Academy lost, don't look at G Applewhite. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 17 boards. Applewhite is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. J Holland was another key player, putting up ten points.

Southampton Academy is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10. As for Brunswick Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which lines up perfectly with their 15-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southampton Academy will square off against Tidewater Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southampton Academy is facing Tidewater Academy at the right time seeing as Tidewater Academy is stuck on a six-game losing streak. Brunswick Academy has already played their next contest (against Westover Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
