Emil Flaquer made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wekiva is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-8 otherwise. Flaquer was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.
In other batting news, Brady Reinert was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing Six bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Wekiva's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 0-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Charles Neal, who scored three runs while going 1-for-2.
Wekiva always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Evans was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against Windermere Prep, falling 24-12. Even though they lost, the Trojans' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.6 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Cj Daniels and Kailand Walker stepped up to the plate in a big way. Daniels scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3, while Walker scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Deion Holmes, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
Wekiva's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Evans, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wekiva has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Evans struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wekiva took their victory against Evans when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-9. Will Wekiva repeat their success, or does Evans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
