Wonewoc-Center is 1-9 against Hillsboro since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Wolves will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Wonewoc-Center took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Everything went their way against Royall as they made off with a 9-2 victory.
Brooklynn Bolton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Bolton was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Wonewoc-Center got a massive performance out of Bryn Burns, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Burns has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Callissa Keller, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro made easy work of Boscobel on Tuesday and carried off a 19-1 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.
Like Wonewoc-Center, Hillsboro also got a great game from a two-way player: Harper Sullivan. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sullivan has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Madisyn Herritz was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Michelyn Hansen was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Hillsboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in three consecutive games.
Hillsboro pushed their record up to 11-6 with the victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wonewoc-Center, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.
Wonewoc-Center came up short against Hillsboro in their previous meeting back in April, falling 8-4. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
