Boyd has won eight straight games at home, while Whitesboro has won eight straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Yellowjackets will welcome Whitesboro at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Boyd 1.5, Whitesboro 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Boyd's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Paradise by a score of 4-0.
Abby Atkinson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Atkinson wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Budge, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Boyd hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Whitesboro got the win against Pilot Point on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-0. Considering Whitesboro has won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Boyd, Whitesboro also got a great game from a two-way player: Avery Howerton. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Howerton was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Cameron Ortiz and Kaydence Thomas did most of the damage at the plate: Ortiz went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Thomas went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Reagan Downs was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs.
Boyd's victory bumped their record up to 22-2. As for Whitesboro, their win bumped their record up to 18-7.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Boyd has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .480. However, it's not like Whitesboro struggles in that department as they've averaged .508. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Boyd was able to grind out a solid victory over Whitesboro in their previous meeting on March 3rd, winning 6-1. Will the Yellowjackets repeat their success, or do Whitesboro have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
