The Northeast Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 51-27 walloping at the hands of Chesapeake. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Northeast in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Northeast saw an underclassman step up: Brynn Jones scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Jones hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Fox, who scored four points along with four blocks.
Northeast struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Chesapeake pulled down 30 offensive rebounds.
Chesapeake was led to victory by Ava Arruda and Kasey Slade. Arruda scored 12 points along with five steals, while Slade dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kendall Kotofski, who scored three points along with four steals.
Northeast dropped their record down to 1-12 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.3 points per game. As for Chesapeake, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Northeast will head out on the road to face off against the Seahawks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. South River presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Eagles in Maryland (the Seahawks are ranked 19th, while the Eagles are ranked 227th). As for Chesapeake, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. St. John's Catholic Prep is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season.
