It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Liberty Hawks had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They skirted past Chavez 34-31. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Liberty had a senior duo take command as Noah Bonilla threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.2 yards per attempt and Brody Harlow gained 155 total yards and two touchdowns. Liberty also got help from Caleb Sisco who showed off his sure hands for 87 receiving yards.
Chavez's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Santana Morales, who threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Ochoa, who picked up 98 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Chavez, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-6.
Liberty will square off against Wasco at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Wasco is ranked 505th, while Liberty is ranked 494th). Chavez does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
