The Winnebago Indians waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Hartington-Newcastle by a score of 61-53. That's two games straight that Winnebago has won by exactly eight points.
Caden Brownrigg was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with six assists and five rebounds. It was the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Timothy Lapointe, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Hartington-Newcastle lost, one person who can't be blamed is Riley Sudbeck. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. Sudbeck has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Dayton Sudbeck was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds.
Winnebago's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Hartington-Newcastle, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Winnebago's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Trojans on February 6th. Hopefully Wakefield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday. As for Hartington-Newcastle, they will stay at home for another game and welcome the Knights at 7:30 p.m. on February 5th.
