AAAAAA Region 8 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Brookwood was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in AAAAAA Region 8. Earlier in the week, the Broncos triumphed over Shiloh 30-24.
Brookwood suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after topping the Generals. The Broncos had been ranked 23rd, but fell to 27.
Archer's dynamic duo of Gabe Tiller and Sean Fowler proved tough for Central Gwinnett to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Tiller threw for 62 yards and Fowler had 28 yards receiving. Will Kone helped Archer's passing attack out by catching one ball for 16 yards.
Chris Carson was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 172 yards as Parkview defeated the Black Knights. Justis Rosser also contributed to the rushing game with 32 yards on the ground.
Central Gwinnett's Eman Westmoreland and Justin Brownlee have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Westmoreland has thrown for 1024 yards this season, while Brownlee, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 27 catches for 556 yards. Carson from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 897 yards.
The marquee game in AAAAAA Region 8 this week will be the clash between Grayson and South Gwinnett. The Rams enters the contest ranked fifth in the state, while the Comets ranks 19th.
