The Pine Island Panthers will challenge the Caledonia Warriors at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Pine Island will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Pine Island headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Goodhue let them put that streak behind them. The Panthers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Wildcats 13-11. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won eight in a row.
Joey Grobe made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Grobe was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Back at the plate, Alex Knox was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Lowrie, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Pine Island kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Caledonia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Cotter.
Jack Schmitz put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only four walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Max Schmitz was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Tyson Ginther was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
The victory got Pine Island back to even at 4-4. As for Caledonia, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pine Island has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Caledonia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Pine Island got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in June of 2025 against Caledonia by a conclusive 6-0 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
