Softball Recap: Leadership Academy Snags Sixth Win in Last Seven Games

Leadership Academy won against Atkins on Wednesday with 16 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Carver Yellowjackets. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Ashlyn Koerber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Leadership Academy let Caleigh Buwalda and Emory Maxwell run wild. Buwalda went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Maxwell got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave Maxwell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Hopkins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Leadership Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .769. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in 13 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Leadership Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Carver, their loss was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leadership Academy will square off against Bethany Community at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Carver, they will take on R.J. Reynolds at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Demons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.37 runs per game on average), something the Yellowjackets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
