Baseball Recap: Park Crossing's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Park Crossing came into Wednesday's match having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Percy Julian Phoenix on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-6 win. Considering the Thunderbirds' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

J GREEN and J DUNCAN were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, GREEN pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, DUNCAN tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, GREEN scored two runs while going 1-for-1, while DUNCAN went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. GREEN has become a key player for Park Crossing: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on I JOHNSON, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Park Crossing's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of J SANKEY, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Park Crossing always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Park Crossing's victory bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Percy Julian, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.

Looking ahead, Park Crossing will be playing in front of their home fans against Southside at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Thunderbirds will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least ten runs in their last five contests. Percy Julian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
