Stanton County fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Lakin on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Broncs by a score of 12-11. The loss was the Trojans' first of the season.
Kaydence McCleary was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out 11 batters over 7.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. McCleary was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Summer Kendrick was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. Meanwhile, Sublette suffered their biggest loss since April 5, 2024 on Monday. They lost 17-7 to Southwestern Heights. The Larks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Having lost for the first time this season, Stanton County fell to 3-1. As for Sublette, they now have a losing record of 1-2-1.
Stanton County couldn't quite get it done against Sublette in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 12-8. Can Stanton County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
